Some of the paintings have a young man living in a comical Shanghai. The ubiquitous abstract characters are acting out, signified in mediation between the human and sometimes otherworldly dimensions. I chose colors that reminded me of my childhood, they give me a sense of a carefree life. In some paintings, a mini individual stands alone in an open blue space, it is taken from my early 2000s artwork. The lone individual feels somewhat ominous, but a bright oasis is waiting for him. The paintings have harsh strokes and rough under-layers, a witness to our city’s daily cacophony. The combined abstract-floral with this new figurative work was very well received in the exhibitions. I will continue to experiment with it. Watch this page!
